New York, N.Y. (August 13, 2024) – Citizens Union has issued the following statement from Executive Director Betsy Gotbaum in response to The New York Times‘ Decision to Discontinue Endorsements in Local NYC Races:

“We are deeply disappointed by The New York Times’ decision to discontinue offering endorsements in New York City elections. For years, The Times has been a critical voice in helping voters navigate the complexities of local races, offering trusted guidance in making informed choices at the polls.”

“This change underscores the importance of Citizens Union’s candidate evaluation process. As one of the last sources for unbiased evaluations of candidates for important local offices, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing voters with the clear, objective information they need to make informed decisions. Now more than ever, New Yorkers deserve a reliable resource to help them understand who is best equipped to serve our city.”
