★ Preferred Candidate ★

Blake Morris – Dem
Candidate has returned a questionnaire
Age: 57
Occupation: Attorney
Education: University of Florida, B.A.; Brooklyn Law School, J.D.

Morris is a 20-year resident of Ditmas Park and has worked as an attorney for the past 25 years. Morris has been a member of the Ditmas Park Neighborhood Association Board of Directors since 2000 and has served several terms on the Kings County Democratic Committee. He is also on the steering committee of NYSD17 for Progress, a community group created in 2016 to advocate for important issues in District 17 and especially to respond to incumbent Sen. Simcha Felder’s policy decisions. In 2016, he sued the state Senate and won, forcing them to disclose their rules on taxpayer-funded mailers to the public. Morris plans to support good government measures in the realm of electoral and campaign finance reform by supporting legislation to allow early-voting, election day voter registration, and an ethical, automatic campaign finance disclosure portal. Morris demonstrated an understanding of the diverse needs of the people in Senate District 17, as well as the reality of social service provision there. Due to his support for good government reform, and given the incumbent’s poor record on these issues, Citizens Union prefers Blake Morris in this race.
