Citizens Union Congratulates Endorsed Candidates New Yorkers Approve All Five Ballot Questions Backed by Citizens Union
Attorney General James, Comptroller DiNapoli, and Assembly Member-elect McCreight win; all five charter amendments pass
New York, NY (November 4, 2026) – Citizens Union congratulates Letitia James, Thomas DiNapoli, and Chris McCreight on their victories in the 2026 general election, all endorsed by Citizens Union. James was re-elected Attorney General, DiNapoli was re-elected State Comptroller, and McCreight won Assembly District 46.
New York City voters also approved all five ballot questions proposed by the Commission on Government Efficiency, each of which Citizens Union supported. These changes will help cut red tape for small businesses and nonprofits, speed up street safety projects, and put a stronger structure in place for the city’s rainy day fund.
“We congratulate Attorney General James, Comptroller DiNapoli, and Assembly Member-elect Chris McCreight. Citizens Union was proud to support candidates from both major parties who are committed to a reform agenda in Albany,” said Grace Rauh, Executive Director of Citizens Union. “We are pleased New Yorkers voted overwhelmingly to support five ballot measures that are practical steps to make New York City government work better and faster to address the needs of New Yorkers.”
While the ballot questions are a strong start, more work remains to make NYC government more efficient and effective. Transformative reform will mean tackling the city’s byzantine hiring processes, modernizing how government uses technology, and strengthening internal watchdog agencies. The charter revision process itself is also overdue for reform, so future commissions aren’t rushed or misused for political gamesmanship. With the amendments approved, Citizens Union will actively track how city agencies put them into practice.
