Wave Chan is an active Tea Party member who was inspired to run for office due to his opposition to the Affordable Health Care Act and NAFTA. He is running this year because he believes that the incumbent, Sheldon Silver, should not remain unopposed. But for creating greater efficiency in government, Chan opposes many of Citizens Union’s reform proposals, including campaign finance reform, and believes that many election reforms should not be enacted due to concerns of voter fraud. He supports enactment of a Voter ID requirement for the state to address fraud. The main issues he would address if elected include immigration reform, bringing back manufacturing jobs, and ensuring fiscal responsibility. Chan has provided detailed proposals regarding immigration reform, supporting the ability for illegal immigrants to pay a fine
