New York, N.Y. (August 25, 2021) — Citizens Union released the following statement from Executive Director Betsy Gotbaum congratulating Governor Kathy Hochul and Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin on their new positions:

“On behalf of Citizens Union, New York’s oldest good government group, I would like to congratulate Governor Kathy Hochul and Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin on their new positions. Both Governor Hochul and Lieutenant Governor Benjamin are dedicated, talented public servants, and we wish them well in their new roles. Governor Hochul’s swearing in represented an historic moment, as she became the first woman to serve our state as Governor. We join all New Yorkers in celebrating this long overdue milestone.

“Governor Hochul and Lieutenant Governor Benjamin take office at a challenging time for our state. Scandal after scandal in Albany has eroded the public’s faith in our government. We are encouraged that Governor Hochul has indicated that ethics reform and transparency will be a focal point of her administration. We are excited that she has picked Brian Benjamin, someone who has demonstrated a strong grasp of reform issues, as her Lieutenant Governor. We look forward to working with all elected officials in Albany to rebuild trust in our democratic institutions.”
