2026 Primary Election

Brooklyn: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights

Assembly District 56

Preferred Candidate

Eon Huntley

Occupation: Retail Worker

Education: Parsons School of Design (BFA)

Eon Huntley is running for this seat for the second time, having lost to the incumbent by just 479 votes in 2024. He fully supported Citizens Union’s entire reform agenda. Citizens Union found his policy answers more polished than in his prior run and was impressed by his principled responses when pressed on how he would build support for reforms like open primaries. On campaign finance reform, he drew on his direct experience being the target of heavy super PAC spending in his 2024 race. Citizens Union prefers Eon Huntley in this race.

Stefani Zinerman

Occupation: New York State Assembly Member, Assembly District 56

Education: Rochester Institute of Technology (BA)

Stefani Zinerman was first elected to this seat in 2020, after working for Council Member Robert Cornegy and State Senator Velmanette Montgomery, and after years of civic engagement in Bedford-Stuyvesant through various local groups. Citizens Union preferred her in the 2024 primary, despite her opposition to several of our policies, in part because she expressed an openness to discussing these issues further and had previously passed an election reform bill related to the plain ballot language law. In this cycle, however, she reiterated her opposition to key election reforms, including same-day voter registration, open primaries, and reforming the state’s special election process, making her continued preference difficult to justify.
