Samantha Kattan is a nonprofit professional with the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board, where she has developed deep expertise in housing affordability. She is endorsed by incumbent Claire Valdez. Kattan is supportive of Citizens Union’s reform agenda, with the exception of open primaries, a position she acknowledged is still evolving. She expressed an openness to revisiting through continued dialogue with Citizens Union. During her interview, Citizens Union was impressed by her clear command of district issues and her demonstrated ability to build coalitions and advance legislation. Citizens Union prefers Samantha Kattan in this race.

Pia Rahman

Education: City University of New York (BA)

Pia Rahman is a dietitian and community activist who has been active in local civic life through her service on Community Board 2. She supports Citizens Union’s reform agenda and brought thoughtful ideas to the race, including proposals to improve constituent access across the district. Citizens Union encourages her to remain engaged in civic and political life.
