NEW YORK, NY (August 17, 2020) – Citizens Union has released the following statement from Executive Director Betsy Gotbaum on the passing of former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman:

“This weekend, New York lost a dedicated public servant in former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman. I first got to know Claire when we worked together on the construction of the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park and was struck by how effective an advocate she was for Queens.”

“Claire got a great deal done while serving as Borough President, and she remained active in civic life after leaving office, continuing to accomplish a great deal for her beloved Queens. She was involved in so many important projects to help move the borough forward, including the Flushing Willets Point Corona Local Development Corporation. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”
