New York, N.Y. (June 5, 2024) – Citizens Union has issued the following statement from Executive Director Betsy Gotbaum in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement that the implementation of Congestion Pricing will be delayed:

“Citizens Union is deeply disappointed by today’s announcement from Governor Hochul that the implementation of congestion pricing will be delayed. Congestion Pricing has been thoroughly debated for years, and the MTA has invested hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to prepare for its implementation. The issues being raised now have been raised and considered for years. To reverse course at the 11th hour, in the last two days of a legislative session, on a decision with such massive fiscal implications is simply bad policymaking. Regardless of how you feel about Congestion Pricing, this type of deeply flawed process fuels cynicism in our government.”

Citizens Union Chair Randy Mastro recused himself from all discussions or involvement regarding the issue of congestion pricing.
