CU Testimony in favor of Int. No. 1025, Requiring Quarterly Reporting of Civil Claims Filed Against the NYPD

DeNora Getachew, the director of public policy and legislative counsel for Citizens Union of the City of New York, testified before the New York City Council Committee on Governmental Operations in favor of Int. No. 1025.  She advocated that requiring the corporation counsel to file quarterly reports with the council regarding police action claims will increase transparency around such claims and create opportunities to establish best practices for handling police misconduct in the future.  Citizens Union is concerned about the rising trend of police claims in New York City over the last several years and would like to find ways to mitigate the issue in a more holistic manner.
