Citizens Union Takes Position on Public Oversight of Police Misconduct in NYC

Citizens Union advocated for procedural changes and increased transparency with regard to police misconduct.  They believe that in order to maximize public trust and integrity in the NYPD, there must be a more independent system of oversight, prosecution, and adjudication.  Citizens Union’s recommendations include creating an independent Civilian Complaint Review Board, expanding the range of penalty options and responsibilities of the Police Commissioner, and creating a stronger and more effective Commission to Combat Police Corruption.
