Citizens Union Statement on Reforms of Using City Funds for Advertisements

CU commends City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and the Rules Reform Working Group on effectively banning the use of city funds for self-promotional City Council member advertisements. This new policy allows “the use of taxpayer funds to advertise in newspapers only when an important public service message is being conveyed” and ultimately is indicative of a more “open, accountable, and responsive” City Council.
