Leaders of Civic Organizations Send a Letter to JCOPE on Revisiting Rules on Outside Activities for Policy Makers and Agency Heads-5

The leaders of Common Cause New York, League of Women Voters of New York State, New York Public Interest Research Group, and Reinvent Albany wrote a letter to the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) urging them revise the rules regarding approval of outside activities by heads of public authorities and state agencies.  They are requesting that the rule require both JCOPE and the respective board of directors to approve outside activities, mandate public disclosure of all approvals, and eliminate exemptions for unpaid or per diem roles.  In the letter, they mention the case of MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota, whose outside activities were not communicated to the MTA Board.
