Citizens Union Testimony on City Council Rule Reform
In a continued effort to improve city council operations, Citizens Union proposes a list of essential reforms to Chair Lander, and members of the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Elections. During this City Council public hearing to reform the Council’s rules, CU supports the following rules: “Fairly allocate discretionary funding, Ensure the independence and integrity of the bill drafting process; 3. Convene a task force to explore how best to reduce the number of Council committees that empowers members to focus on key issues and not be spread too thin; and 4. Create a culture that allows for implementation of existing rules.” These proposals draw from previous years of advocacy and council reforms.
