Preferred Candidate

Jessica González-Rojas

Occupation: New York State Assembly Member, Assembly District 34

Education: Boston University (BA); New York University (MPA)

Jessica González-Rojas currently serves as a State Assembly Member for Assembly District 34 and is running for State Senate with the backing of a broad coalition of Queens elected officials. She is supportive of Citizens Union’s entire reform agenda. During her interview, Citizens Union was impressed by her strong engagement with CU’s policy questions, providing specific, New York-focused responses on campaign finance transparency and other reform issues, demonstrating a genuine commitment to continued reform. Citizens Union also valued her collaborative approach and her ability to build bridges across the district’s political landscape. Citizens Union prefers Jessica González-Rojas in this race.

Jessica Ramos

Occupation: New York State Senator, Senate District 13

Education: Hofstra University (BA)

Jessica Ramos has served as State Senator for Senate District 13 since 2018 and has built a notable legislative record, including the pandemic-era Excluded Workers Fund and legislation raising the minimum wage. She is considered an independent voice in Albany and is not afraid to take a stance that others disagree with if she thinks it is the right policy, as she demonstrated when voting against a planned casino in her district. She is supportive of Citizens Union’s entire reform agenda, and we encourage her to stay involved in civic life, continuing to stand up for what she believes in.
