Statement of Support for City Council Discretionary Funding Reforms

Citizens Union, in addressing recent public concerns regarding City Council’s management of discretionary funds, supports proposals to award “public funds to nonprofits by creating a uniform qualification process applicable to all who seek discretionary city funds given out by the Council and requiring greater public disclosure of actual and possible conflicts of interest.” Though this reform will not solve all issues of inequity, politicization, and transparency, CU hopes these reforms will cast “sunshine” on this process and strengthen public trust in City Council.
