Citizens Union is a leading advocate for campaign finance reform and has long been concerned about the undue influence of money on campaigns, candidates and government officials in New York City. Citizens Union has supported the City’s public matching program since its inception in 1988, and has helped to strengthen it several times since then, most recently in 2007 when pay-to-play restrictions were added. We will continue to work for changes to the city’s campaign finance program to ensure its relevance and effectiveness, and will monitor the City’s implementation of the doing business database requirements, as well as the intersection of money and politics.
